Christy, an undistinguished young man, appears in a deserted village in
Western Ireland, confessing that he has just murdered his father. The
villagers make a great fuss of Christy and set him up as hero. However, the
story unfolds as the supposedly murdered father comes to the village… The
author of this masterpiece, John Millington Synge, a playwright who embodied
the overwhelming presence of people living in harsh natural surroundings, is
brought to life after 100 years by the Druid Theatre Company, directed by
Garry Hynes who was the first woman to win a Tony Award for Best Director of
a play in 1998. Long-awaited first Japanese showing of a real and fantastic
tragicomedy “The Playboy of the Western World”, which has been performed
and won rave reviews all over the world.
The Druid Theatre Company performances are supported by Culture Ireland.
